Hello.
My name is Scott Mathews. Currently, I am a 29 year old man. I have been married for over 6 years now to Kallie. One day, I will share our story of how we got together has husband and wife. I have two wonderful children. Lilah, my daughter, just turned 5 and is full of life. My son’s name is Luke. He is 2 and is super protective of his sister, but more than that, always wants to know where his mother is at.
I work at a church is east Dallas. I have been there for 7 and a half months. I work as the youth and education pastor there. I have some awesome youth. They are honest, some of them stubborn, but a lot of fun to be around. I am still getting to know the education side of my job. I am beginning to brainstorm how to see the education of the church grow, but that will be a constant challenge and prayer request.
The church is in an interesting time in it’s history. Back in the 70’s and 80’s it was a growing and thriving church. The church had thousands of people in their membership and they never thought that they’d never go backwards. But in the 90’s the church began to decline. With neighborhood churches popping up and people moving out of Dallas and into the suburbs and out rim cities of the DFW Metroplex, the church began a slow decline. But times began to change. 2 years ago, the church branched out and began a satelite church to reach some new families. The leadership of the church has changed, and the attitude of the people has begun to change (from “how long till we die” to “whatever it takes…let’s do it!”).
I also teach at Dallas Baptist University. I have a great class of students. They bring some energy to my life and they are the future of church leadership and I want to be around them to know what is coming in the next generation of leaders.
Blogging has been something that is difficult to me to be consistent in doing. But here I am trying. I have found from pastors around the country that blogging helps them stay connected with reality, but also helps them maintain some sanity. We’ll see how it helps me!
Ready to see the world change….Scotto
